Gay marriage is still not legal in Washington.
However, two months ago, same-sex couples were allowed to register with the state as Domestic Partners. On our 10-year anniversary, Matt and I went to our local credit union and asked to have our Declaration of Registered Domestic Partnerships notarized. The event went without any fanfare. We went to the restaurant where we met a decade ago and had pizza.
Our certificate arrived in the mail today!!! We got ID cards to carry in our wallets so if one of us is incapacitated or dies (ew) the other can visit or make arrangements. These seem like such inalienable rights, but just a few weeks ago, we didn't have them.
These are baby steps, but they are steps in the right direction. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to call Matt my husband as well as my soulmate. But for now, we celebrate Big Tiny Giant Baby Steps.

I'm so happy for you and I love that you celebrated in such a personal, quaint and pizza-rific way. Cheers to you both!
Awesome!
Congratulations! I am happy for both of you. It is unfortunate though, that we look at these as being such great achievements or advancements when it is something taken for granted by our straight counterparts.
Did you ever imagine this ten years ago? It really is more than just a piece of paper.
Well, I'd already seen it on Matter's blog, but this made me get a little misty. I think it was the date back at the place you met ten years ago. Big, big, BIG congratulations.
I'll bet that was the most romantic pizza you've ever had! Congrats!
Congratulations Scott! I am so happy that my cousin has you in his life.
That is very cool! your baby steps are a lot more than we have here in Michigan.
