Cuddles' Lament

I work with a Republican. She's one of the last supporters out there for president shrub. This co-worker, who I shall refer to as Cuddles, laments that the Constitution prevents president shrub and his undead companion from seeking a third term. Heck, I like to believe the reason they called Tuesday's event SUPER TUESDAY was because neither shrub nor Cheney was on any of the ballots. Hey, I think that's pretty damn super!

But I digress... Cuddles was complaining that she is upset because she doesn't like any of the candidates. (I think she would only be truly sublime if Sauron were in the race, after all, I happen to know that since 2001, Cheney's undisclosed location was Mordor.) Cuddles was not happy.

I had a flashback to 2004. I am a true-blue Democrat but I just couldn't get into John Kerry. But I supported him because my ambivalence for Kerry was dwarfed by my disgust for president shrub and his henchman. When my right-wing uncle and I would trade email on why we wanted our candidate to win, it wasn't because we liked our party's nominee...it was because we so despised the other party's. I so hated shrub that I would have voted for Valdemort were he running against shrub. My uncle so hated Kerry, that he would rather see some lying, corrupt, inept, whiney, weasel - puppet of the right take the Whitehouse. For both of us, it was the choice between two evils. Alas, he won. We all lost.

This year is so different, while Cuddles laments her party's front runners, I rejoice!

I love Clinton! I love Obama! I still love Edwards (after all, he just suspended his campaign)! My only problem is that I have to make a choice between them. I am really excited about this election...and it looks as though Blue America agrees. Look at the turn-out from Democrats on Super Tuesday and compare it to the Reds. Across the country, Democrats are voting in record numbers. We are energized; we want change; we want hope; we want a better world! We want our candidate, whichever one that is!

2 Your thoughts???:

Amen!!! It's such a luxury to be excited about each potential candidate.

I feel the same way. This year I'm so happy with the choices we have! I will be skipping all the way to the voting booth.
