Ahead of Her Time

Marlene Dietrich was an amazing woman. I was never really a big fan until I actually got a chance to see some her in Witness for the Prosecution.. I read her bio on the Diva's Webpage...then I was hooked. Besides being a larger-than-life star, screen goddess, fighter for civil rights, Diva, she was the first woman to receive the Medal of Freedom. She did her own make-up and was also the only actress ever to be admitted to the Film Makeup and Hairdressers' Union.

So I saw this scene in a movie...and my jaw dropped. Keep in mind it was from 1930. Jump ahead, if you must, to 2.30 (but you'll miss hottie Gary Cooper smouldering smile).

Maybe there's some truth to the rumors regarding Marlene and Tallulah Bankhead. The two had adjoining dressing rooms at Paramount in the early 1930s. Marlene wore gold dust in her hair. Tallulah got some, put in on her pubic hair, showed herself to people and said, "Dahlings, guess what I've been doing."
