This will make you smile...

My blog buddy Tom was feeling a little blue today. So I thought, what lifts me out of my doldrums? Need you ask?

I don't know about you, but I feel better!

What a Feeling!

Every leap year, I play Irene Cara's "What a Feeling" from Flashdance. Even though I've had to listen to it seven times now, it still makes me chortle, especially this version with DJ Bobo.

Okay, where's the bucket of water?

Oops...

Take Me Home

Long-time visitors of Scootersville, know I love music. Two of my favorite artists are Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Cher. How cool is that when they both do the same song? Now I know this song will always be Cher's, but now that Sophie with her gorgeous Welsh accent has recorded "Take Me Home" I have finally figured out all the words. Some of Cher's words got lost in that vibrato. Which do you like best?
Sophie's version...

And now, the original...

I came across this video on youtube. It's from a man named Jerry Dimmitt who among many things has been a talk show host. He posted this video in response to a very hateful message by a soulless creature who hides behind the handle of Messianicjew2000. I tried to find the original spew, but could only find responses, such as Mr. Dimmitt's.

This post is in memory of my bestfriend from college, Richard H. He suffered the same fate as Donnie. Today would have been his birthday. I miss you, Rick.

HRC speaking at the HRC

Hillary spoke at a Human Rights Campaign meeting where she not only tells the group what she will do...Joe Solmonese, the president of the HRC, says what she has already done.

I can't find any times where the other candidates; Obama, McCain or Huckabee (hahahahaha!) addressed the Human Rights Campaign. If you can, please let me know.

Please, oh please!

I found this graphic on one of my new favorite blogs, The Notorious J.O.E.
Usually his posts are quite funny. But I thought this was right on.

Here's my fear...Obama will win our party's nomination. And as we get closer to general election, Barack's cult of personality bubble will burst. With Nader sucking up the far left, McCain will win. We will have four more years of the same.

I plead to all those who support Obama to ask yourself why you are supporting this man. If it's because of what he says he will do, look to see what he has done already. Do his past actions support his words? If you are supporting Obama because he's so charismatic or because he "gives you hope," look deeper. What's the substance beneath his shine?

Texas and Ohio, it's up to you! You will pick our president. Hillary Clinton or John McCain.

Rare Ross

Yesterday, I posted a not-so-nice MadTV parody of Miss Ross.
So, today I'm making up for it by posting a few rare performances from the Diva.

Remind me to tell you the story of when she sat on my lap and sang to me.

"You wear a necktie so I'll recognize you."

Tonight, the Pacific Northwest was given an incredible view of a near total eclipse. Moon that is, not heart. We missed the first part as the skies were cloudy (go figure!) but as if commanded, the sky cleared and the moon all but vanished in the shadow of the earth.

And a grand time was had by all.

Name an accomplishment...

I found this video on kenneth in the (212).

I open this for discussion, what has Senator Obama accomplished as a US Senator?

I ask this not just because I support Hillary (which I do) but if Barack wins our candidacy, we will have to convince the center that he's their man, too...not just on what he says he will do, but based on what he has done. I truly like this man, but it takes more than charisma to be a leader. The substance needs to be there. We cannot take a chance that McCain wins the White House!

I will never forget it, you know!

After yesterday's dark post, I had to, simply had to post something a little lighter. And would could be lighter than the Divine Miss M and a few Sophie Tucker jokes?

There, I feel a little better.

Dear Mr. President

My family has taught me that one should have the highest regard for the President of the United States of America. However, this man and his corrupt cronies have so scarred his office, indeed the very face of America, that I am truly ashamed. Matt and I watched this video (by P!nk) again tonight and I teared up knowing this is the man who represents us. This is the leader of the free world. God help us.

President's Day will never mean the same again.

Happy Birthday, Robbie!

Robbie Williams celebrates his birthday today. This man who's fought many demons sings of Angels.

"The Road to Mandalay"

And one from the vaults... "Could It Be Magic"

Happy birthday, Divo!

Happy Birthday, Marilyn.

75 years ago today, Marilyn Novak was born in Chicago. Kim Novak, as she was later known, went on to be one of the greatest stars in Hollywood, making (with Jimmy Stewart) what many consider to be one the cinema's most compelling masterpieces, Hitchcock's Vertigo.
Here is movie magic at its finest.
SPOILER ALERT - Do not watch this if you haven't seen Vertigo!

And smoldering with William Holden in "Picnic."

Happy birthday, Miss Novak. See you at Ernie's!

February's 12 of 12

Wow, here it is, the second 12 of 12 of 2008. For those of you who have just tuned in, this monthly event was created by Chad Darnell. For rules, punishments, etc. check out his BLOG. You know. I enjoy reading his page and suggest you check it out frequently!

This morning, I took a picture of the upper-right corner of our fridge. Note the two campaign stickers for my candidates. I got them while participating in Washington's caucus this last Saturday. There's also a photo of Matt when we first got Hunter, the polydactel kitten.

This is Miss Alice. Alice watches over my desk at work making sure people don't add tasks to my calender. Who would dare mess with Miss Alice???

The sun came out as I was driving home. Here the lovely Lake Union beckons you for a swim amongst her boats. But don't...Lake Union is frigid! Just ask Lake Washington.

Approaching Seattle via I5 south-bound is a beautiful trip. Don't forget to breathe!

These may be just trees. But I thought they were purty.

"But officer, I was only going one way!"

The Space Needle is a Seattle landmark. Few though know that it is completely made of imported cheese.

This building, made of mostly steel, was gleaming brightly in the last breaths of daylight. I wonder what it will be. A coffee shop? African bead store? A Thai restaurant? Maybe all that and more!

The Seattle Asian Art Museum came alive at sunset.

From Volunteer Park, I took this photo with the Space Needle, Puget Sound, and Olympic in the background. A gorgeous night!

This one tree seemed to beg for someone to take notice. I not only thought it warranted a photo, but I felt compelled to share it with you.

This is Martini's. It arrived tonight from a company that makes Christmas villages. Our village is Bedford Falls from "It's a Wonderful Life." We've already received several house, props and people from the movie. Alas there's no Mr. Potter figurine yet. Worry not, dear reader, I hear Dick Cheney will soon be looking for ways to increase his revenue.

This month's BONUS PICTURE is based on "Pliosaur"
I wasn't quite sure what a pliosaur was so I had to look it up on wikipedia. Turns out these little buggers have been extinct for a long time. So I took a picture of Paco the Pacu with rabid Betty for aspect. See, Betty's just a little short of 5'6" tall. Paco doesn't mind. He'll eat her and her filthy mouth. The bad sweater he'll leave.

Until next month, Have a happy 13-11

Now, that's talent!

Lots of people I know can empty an entire can of Cheez-whiz. But few can do it while singing. Here Varla Jean Merman from Girls Will Be Girls shows us what she can do with an aerosol cheese product.

What's your secret talent?

Waterloo

This morning, I posted a scene from Little Miss Sunshine starring the amazing Toni Collette. Most people know Miss Collette as the mother in The Sixth Sense or as the mother in Little Miss Sunshine. But before she was a mom, she got married in Muriel's Wedding.
Here she is in my favorite scene.

"You're terrible, Muriel."

Give a warm welcome to Miss Olive Hoover

We loved "Little Miss Sunshine." It was funny, sad, sarcastic and very original. When they got to the part where Olive performs her number, we were laughing so hard we couldn't breathe. Earlier this week, I put this movie on my iPod so I could watch it over and over. Hey, I embrace my OCD.

If you haven't seen LMS, get it today. If you've already seen it, sit back and pretend Olive is dancing just for you.

SPOILER ALERT - DON'T WATCH THIS VIDEO IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET!

You Go, Girl!

We went a caucusin' today

Today was our state's caucus. Neither Matt nor I had ever gone to a caucus before. But then, we've never been so excited about an election like this! Before this year, the thought of a caucus sounded tedious. I had never understood the reason behind a caucus. Voting is so much easier and takes less time...and less effort. We've come to realize Democracy shouldn't be effortless. It should take time, effort and a great deal of thought. It should involve discussion, listening and compromise. Hence we caucus.

For the past few months, we have both vacillated as to we want as our candidate. I have leaned more toward Hillary but was still on the fence. I looked forward to today wanting to have my position solidified or be moved by my neighbors' argument.

We heard that in state after state Democrats are turning out in record numbers so we expected a crowd. As we live in one of the bluest parts of one of the bluest states we knew this would be no exception.

We had no idea.

We got there early and were amazed at the line to get in. Here were our neighbors...and they were excited, too!

Our party packed a local school beyond capacity. I am not a crowd person. I get really claustrophobic in large groups...but this was so exciting! Before the caucus began, an announcement came over the PA and informed us that the crowd exceeded the limit allowed. The speaker said that if there was anyone who felt that their mind was made up, then they could leave. Many left...but the school was still packed!

We listened to several speakers passionately tell us why their choice should be our choice. We made up our minds and chose our delegates.

Even those of use whose candidate did not win the caucus, still left knowing we were happy with the outcome. Here we are, the Happy Caucusers.

From across the street, the Republicans glared.

The Bush Cheney days are coming to an end.

For the warmongers out there...

What will the hawks do now that shrub's time is winding down? Who would they have lead us into the next bungled war?

Makes me love our candidates all the more!

We're going to a caucus!

Tomorrow is Washington State's caucus. We are so excited!!! This is a first time for both of us. We will be given a few moments to sway our neighbors to vote for our choice of candidate. Only...I'm not sure I've made up my mind. Hillary? I love her. Barack? I love him, too. Who shall I stand with? Which group will I join? When they get to me, what will I say? It's not like me not to have a firm opinion. I am, after all, an Aries. I can't be noncommittal.
I am really anxious about this. Perhaps I shall just lead everyone in a dance.

Perhaps if I were caucusing in the other party.

Cuddles' Lament

I work with a Republican. She's one of the last supporters out there for president shrub. This co-worker, who I shall refer to as Cuddles, laments that the Constitution prevents president shrub and his undead companion from seeking a third term. Heck, I like to believe the reason they called Tuesday's event SUPER TUESDAY was because neither shrub nor Cheney was on any of the ballots. Hey, I think that's pretty damn super!

But I digress... Cuddles was complaining that she is upset because she doesn't like any of the candidates. (I think she would only be truly sublime if Sauron were in the race, after all, I happen to know that since 2001, Cheney's undisclosed location was Mordor.) Cuddles was not happy.

I had a flashback to 2004. I am a true-blue Democrat but I just couldn't get into John Kerry. But I supported him because my ambivalence for Kerry was dwarfed by my disgust for president shrub and his henchman. When my right-wing uncle and I would trade email on why we wanted our candidate to win, it wasn't because we liked our party's nominee...it was because we so despised the other party's. I so hated shrub that I would have voted for Valdemort were he running against shrub. My uncle so hated Kerry, that he would rather see some lying, corrupt, inept, whiney, weasel - puppet of the right take the Whitehouse. For both of us, it was the choice between two evils. Alas, he won. We all lost.

This year is so different, while Cuddles laments her party's front runners, I rejoice!

I love Clinton! I love Obama! I still love Edwards (after all, he just suspended his campaign)! My only problem is that I have to make a choice between them. I am really excited about this election...and it looks as though Blue America agrees. Look at the turn-out from Democrats on Super Tuesday and compare it to the Reds. Across the country, Democrats are voting in record numbers. We are energized; we want change; we want hope; we want a better world! We want our candidate, whichever one that is!

Oscar Wilde only wishes he were this gay, pt. 2

Who didn't love Paul Lynde???
I don't know what to say...

Big Ruby Red, The Rhinestone Trucker?

Oh, My Goodness!

Why do Hell's Angels wear leather?

Oscar Wilde wishes he were this gay...

A while back, Richard Simmons was a special guest star on "Whose Line Is It Anyway."

"I'm just so happy."
The full video can be found here...or ironically, the reruns can still be seen on the Family Channel. I didn't think they meant family.

"It's a football thing"

Okay, I admit it, I don't like football. I don't know how anyone with ADD can watch anything with that many timeouts.

And BTW, of course you can go when you're new...that's how you get the toaster oven.
