Snoqualmie Falls

It was a beautiful day in Seattle yesterday. So we went to Snoqualmie Falls.

I took this photo from the base. It's hard from this small image to truly appreciate the falls. Click on the image for a bigger photo. Keep in mind Snoqualmie Falls are nearly 100 taller than Niagara. It was a light flow day. During heavy flow days, the ground rumbles.

How low can he go?

According to USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, President Bush now holds the record for the most unfavorable president in the 70-year history of Gallup Poll.

Their poll suggests that 28% of Americans approve of Bush's performance as president while 69% disapprove. With 268 days left, we wonder how low the shrub can go.

So strangely romantic

Perfect casting makes the perfect movie. And there have been fewer movies cast as perfectly as "Addams Family Values." Angelica Huston's sublime Morticia and the sadly missed Raul Julia's Gomez were the quintessential Addams couple. Add the dry wit of Christina Ricci (as Wednesday), the comedic genius of Joan Cusack (as Deb-bie), the off-the-wall brilliance of Christopher Lloyd and you have the perfect Addams Family. I loved the original series (from reruns, of course!), but this cast was brilliant.

Here's one of my favorite scenes where Fester tries to woo Deb-bie while Morticia and Gomez dance one of the hottest tangos ever.

Go ahead, watch it again!

Bendiness?

Another great act from Britain's Got Talent.

I knew a girl from the Phillipines who was a cantortionist. That's right she was a Manila Folder!

Separated at birth???

I saw this picture today of Tony Snow, ex-White House spokesman, CNN's "conservative political contributor," and all-around asshole. After years of sounding like Max Headroom, now he looks like him, too!
That's a lot of teeth!

So bad it's . . . BAD

I don't know what to say other than I think there's anti-seizure medicine that might help.

More Car Crash Videos

There's something about a really bad video that you just gotta love.
This first is from Boney M. All of their videos are awesomely horrible. I can't pick the best of the worst...but this has to come pretty close.

Speaking of those Russians, Moskau, by Dschinghis Khan is pretty damn funny own its own. But when the lyrics get buffalaxed, it's priceless!

My favorite buffalax video? Benny Lava!

Car Crash Music Videos

Yesterday, I was mesmerized by the campy video "I Want to Love You Tender." It's what I call a car crash video...a video so awful, you can't turn away.
Big Daddy sent me the link for another, The George Baker Selection's Paloma Blanca. OMG, I can only think of one other music video that's quite as bad as these two...Sheila's "L'Heure de la Sortie."

It's sooooo bad, it's great!

What I'm listening to today.

Besides the songs on my new Kransky Sisters CD, I've got two other songs STUCK in my head.
The first is song is, "Cry for You" by September. Love it!!!!

September has two versions of this song.. The original you can find here.

The second video, I found on one of my favorite blogs, Big Daddy's Bon Jour, Pee Wee.
The song, "I Want to Love You Tender" is from a Finnish duo, Armi & Danny.
It's the best car crash video I've ever seen. I can't turn away...even though I want to.

Which is your favorite???

Guess what came by post today!

I first stumbled over the Kransky Sisters (from Esk) on one of my fav blogs, Divas Never Die. With each viewing of their version of Overload, I found myself nearly crying from laughter.

These women are hysterical.
I downloaded their videos to my iPod...but when I learned they actually put out a CD, I HAD TO HAVE IT. You see, I embrace my OCD; it's easier that way.

I soon found out it was not only OOP, but very, very rare (and why not, their humour is dry). It wasn't available on Amazon nor Ebay! Imagine my delight when I found a music store in South Yarra (a suburb of Melbourne) that had a copy.

Well, my CD arrived today. I can't wait to hear their version of Sexual Healing or Sunrise Sunset.

If you aren't familiar with the Sisters, I urge you to watch this video.

Thanks, Rikki Lee. Love ya, babe!

Messie Bessie

Today is not just Tax Day...it's Bessie Smith's birthday. Bessie was not known for her subtlety.
She sang, "I need a little sugar in my bowl. I need a little hot dog between my roll." and "Get off your knees. I can't see what you're driving at. It's dark down there. Looks like a snake! Drop something in my bowl."
Here's the video for "Gimme Some." I know, I know, the video probably wasn't what Messie Bessie had in mind...or maybe it was.

Whatever happened to drive-in's?

April's 12 of 12

The 12th is my favorite day of the month.
It's the day we get to join in Chad Darnell's 12 of 12.
What's the 12 of 12 you ask?
Click here to learn more. Join. It's fun.

I woke early. So much on my mind.

Our Cerious was blooming. It blooms once or twice a year. The flowers last for just a couple hours, but they sure are purty!

The morning sun was coming through our front door's window.

The flowers Matt gave me for my birthday still make me smile.

Boo Boo loves to sing into his bell.

It was a gorgeous, hot day in Seattle. Puppy Kali was even taking it easy. I don't think I've ever seen her take a rest!

Madge guards our magnolia tree. Who would mess with Madge???

As the weather warms, the koi are waking up.
They're HUGE!!!

We went to Wendy's for lunch. Funny, I didn't know Wendy's was a single's bar.

Wow, look at the temperature!!!

Guess what we bought!

We went to Molbak's one of our favorite nurseries to buy Kali some chew toys. Here's we're driving back on the 520 floating bridge. Mount Rainier says hello!

Kitty, one of our older, uh, more mature dogs watched us plant Kali's chew toys.

Our friend, PPP, took us to Dulces, our favorite restaurant for a belated birthday celebration. A great time was had by all. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day.

How cute is Kylie?

After a long day at work, it was serendipitous to find Kylie has a video for the accoustic version of All I See Is You.

Scootersville hearts Kylie.

Thinking beyond one's self.

Monday, as you might have guessed, was my birthday, normally day of wonderful selfish celebration.

My day did not match what I had in mind.

One of my co-workers was late to work. Everyone was saying, "It's so unlike Dave to be late...I hear there was some horrible accident on Interstate 405. I hope he's not stuck in that traffic." Oddly, a couple people said that Dave had called them either on Sunday night or very early Monday morning. In most cases, the other employees let the calls go into voice mail. "Heck, we'll see him in a few hours. We can hear what's on his mind then."

Later that morning, I got the first phone call. It was from Dave's brother. "Dave was in a car accident." Stunned, I listened to the details. He was dead. This hardworking comrade, this person who always found a kind thing to say to all, was gone. In an instant, he was dead.

We all hear about people who die in car accidents. They are faceless stories in the paper or on the news. They are people we don't know. But I knew this one. My team knew this one. This co-worker, this comrade, this truly good person was dead.

The grief that followed was all over the board. Some cried, some dug deeper into work projects, some had to leave, each did what they had to make it through...not just the day...but the very moment.

We all know death can be sudden, but to happen so unexpectedly, to someone so close, is so inconceivable, so unbelievable, so unfair.

The overwhelming since of pain was felt by all. There was no escaping the pure sorrow. You did not have to know Dave to realize how much he was loved, admired, and respected. He was a good man, an honest man a man who leaves behind a child. A child who lost not only his father, but also his friend, his hero.

I look across to Matt, my partner, my love and I commit to myself that I will never go to bed mad and that I treat each day together as though it were something miraculous. This loss is a reminder of how precious life is. I call to mind the words of philosopher Og Mandino, who said " Tenderly treat the lives you touch as if they will end at midnight."

Goodbye, Dave. Thank you for touching my life. You will be missed.

Santa Roz

Whether playing Hildegaard 'Hildy' Johnson, Sylvia Fowler, or Auntie Mame, Rosalind Russell was one of a kind. Here she was the mystery guest on the TV game show, "What's My Line." What ensued was comedic hilarity. Sit back and enjoy.

Happy Birthday, Ruth

Today marks Bette Davis' 100th birthday.

Bette was strong in an era when woman weren't supposed to be. she was even known as the 4th Warner Brother. An amazing actress, subtlety was not in her vocabulary. When other actress would dare not be filmed in anything other than glamorous roles, Bette seemed to relish in roles that bordered on the grotesque. Never afraid to speak her mind, she once said, "Why am I so good at playing bitches? I think it's because I'm not a bitch. Maybe that's why Miss Crawford always plays ladies."

Often a charactature of herself, she was asked once, "Who do you think does the best impression of you." She took a drag from her cigarette and proclaimed, "I do."
This first video is a collage put to the music of that song.

As Margo Channing in one of the best scenes from her classic movie All about Eve.

As the ruthless Regina in The Little Foxes

This tribute from Merle Streep was very insightful.

An amazing actress, a larger than life personality, she was the movie star.

And as her tombstone says, "She did it the hard way"

Happy Birthday, Doris Day

Matt and I went to the zoo with Doris and her sister Doodah.
...that's right, Doodah Day!

The woman was truly funny and her voice was like honey.

Happy birthday, dear.

This makes me really sad...

After yesterday's post about Alec Guinness' birthday, I thought I would post a few of my favorite Maggie Smith quotes. After uploading them to Dailymotion, I searched the web to see what projects she was currently working on. It was with great sadness that I read she has breast cancer and is undergoing both radiation and chemo. So please join me in sending her your prayers as this amazing two-time Oscar winning actress fights for her life.

And as laughter is the best medicine...
Get well, Dame Maggie, you are still in your prime.

Why I love the BBC

I wonder if they eat poissons d'avril?

Happy Birthday, Alec Guinness

Today is Sir Alec Guinness' birthday. He was one of the most gifted and versatile actors; a true comedic genius! Though known to many people only as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Alec's film biography was rich. His character portrayals were deep, insightful, moving and sometimes way over-the-top. Besides Star Wars, he was also in such classics as Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Lavender Hill Mob, and the original version of The Lady Killers. Alec had an amazing talent of jumping from one character to another. In the very dark comedy, Kind Hearts and Coronets, he played 8 different roles.

George Michael could have learned a lesson from Alec Guinness. When Alec was arrested in 1946, for having sex with another man in a restroom, even though he was well known, he gave the name "Herbert Pocket" to arresting officer. Herbert Pocket was a role he played in Great Expectations. Too bad he didn't use the name Jamesir Bensonmum!

Of all his films, my favorite was Murder by Death. Sir Alec Guinness and Dame Maggie Smith in the same movie? How could it not be a classic???

SPOILER ALERT! Do not watch if you haven't seen the ending of Murder by Death.

Happy birthday, Sir Alec. Thanks for making us laugh!

April Fools!!!!

April Fools' Day is a national holiday in Scootersville. And while I plan mischievous pranks, sit back and watch Rufus sing one of my favorite songs.

A few of my favorite pranks...
*Duct tape the bottom of people's drawers at work.
*Put a little Scotch tape under the ball of a mouse.
*A little Scotch tape over the earpiece on a co-worker's phone makes it so they can barely hear.
*Exchange the "1", "2" and "3" keys and the "7", "8" and "9" keys on a keyboard. This is especially funny with hunt-and-peck typists.
*While a co-worker is at lunch, go to their PC and open Word. Change their name in the Auto-correct feature so that it misspells their name. Make the change in their name similar so they don't catch it right away.
*Hang a sign in front of the speaker at a drive-through ordering station that says, "SPEAKER BROKEN. PLEASE SPEAK LOUDLY AND SLOWLY."
What's your favorite prank??? Let's share for next year's festivities!
