Voici Halloween!!!

Scootersville is multilingual...but with tomorrow being Halloween, we're going all out. This is Halloween is sheer Danny Elfman brillaince. But have you heard it in other languages? Here are 5 complete with English subtitles. The words have been changed for better flow and ethnic flavoring. My favorite is the French, "Voici Halloween"

"ในเมืองฮาโลวิน", the Thai version

But the creepiest is the Russian Version, "Это будет Halloween"

Evil Dead II...Does It Get Any Better than This???

"Don't worry Ash. You can always get another from a second-hand store..."

"Who's laughing now???"

Something NSFW in My House!

Halloween's just not Halloween without DOA or The Exorcist. Luckily this song has them both! Too bad it's out of sync. Oh well. Listen and enjoy,,,just not at work.

Have a Very SCARY Halloween!

October's 12 of 12

Yesterday was the 12th of the month. That is when we celebrate Chad Darnell's 12 of 12, where bloggers all over the world celebrate and share their day with pictures.
Lemons and dog food.

Before I trudged off to work a 12-hour day, I took a romp around the yard. Hopefully these gardenia buds bloom before the frost comes!

This poor bougainvillea is also doomed if we get a chill.

We love our hydrangeas. We have several varieties. This one's really cool as it makes a snapping noise as the flowers open. Just kidding.

A flowering maple...didn't get many blooms but those we did sure were purty!

More hydrangeas. What a great color.

Halloween...less than 2 weeks away. Be afraid!!!

Matt has serious OCD when it comes to Halloween. You won't believe all the crap he makes me buy. This stack of decorations is HUGE!

I had to replace the pond liner as one of the dogs (I won't say which) dropped something into the pond puncturing the bottom. It took days for the entire project since I redid all the rocks, too. Came out quite nice.

I saw these ingredients on the counter. I wonder what Matt's gonna make. Such a wonderful cook.

The trees in front of our house are just starting to change.

I love my commute. Really. Such a beautiful drive. Here are some of the houseboats on Lake Union.

I get to work a little early so I watch a few videos on my iPod. 10 bonus points for the first person to name the video!
That was my day. Did you share yours? If not...mark your calendar now for November 12th.

Ref 71 or Fear through Hatred

Last Saturday, Matt and I went shopping for clothes and Halloween decorations. As we got off the freeway, we were "greeted" by picketers seeking to overturn the newly enacted "Everything but Marriage" law passed here in Washington. We later learned these people crept over from a Slavic church in Eastern Washington.

I can't express the sheer anger and despair we felt as we drove by several blocks worth of people seeking to erase our rights. Their signs were, of course, misleading. They said things like, "Save the Children" and "Protect Marriage" As it is still illegal for us to get married in this state, I don't see how this was relevant. We also are not planning on recruiting their children...so I just don't get it. Here is a letter that I sent to this church and also forwarded to their local newspaper. I don't think it will do anything...but it felt good to write. If you want to contact this church, you can do so by clicking here. Feel free to pass that address on to others.

My grandparents lived through the Cold War era. As I child, I asked them about the Soviets and if we Americans really had anything to fear from them. With a reassuring tone, my grandmother told me of our Slavic heritage. She said that it’s not the Russians we should be afraid of, it’s their leaders. My family always taught me to get to know people. The more we learn about people, the more we will discover that we are not that different. Taking time to get to know others is an investment with countless return. It creates understanding. It erases fear.
Last Saturday, when I saw your followers picketing to take away basic rights finally offered under our states domestic partnership law, I must admit, I was enraged. Imagine seeing a group trying to destroy your basic rights. When I learned this was a group of so-called Christians, I was even more perplexed. The Jesus I read about in The Bible taught love and tolerance…not prejudice and the incitement of fear. When I discovered the picketers were fellow Slavs, I wondered why one group would seek to eradicate the rights of another. Then I thought back to what my grandparents said, “It’s not the people, it’s their leaders.”
The only way to erase fear is through understanding. If you were to come to know my partner and me, you would learn we are good people. We do not seek to diminish your marriage (only you and your spouse have that ability). We seek only the basic rights most couples in a life-long commitment take for granted, such as caring for each other, making final arrangements, property rights, etc. I am proud of the person that I am. I am proud of the man I love and with whom I have made a life-long commitment. This pride does not come easily. There are those, such as your group who seek to make us feel “less than.”
As religious leaders of people, you have not only the power of the pulpit, but an obligation to lead them down a path of Jesus’ words and His values, including loving one’s neighbors and treating everyone as you would wish to be treated. Will you be remembered as a Martin Luther King, Jr. or as a Fred Phelps?
Keep in mind, I was born gay. It was how God made me. I cannot change my sexuality anymore than you can change your heritage. You, however, chose your religion. And even though I strongly disagree with your stances on many issues, I support your right to worship as you choose. Your religious beliefs should not, under any circumstances, affect my civil rights.
If your basis for allowing domestic partners to have basic rights is due to your religious convictions, remember, this is not a theocracy like Iran, Afghanistan or Iraq. Domestic partnerships are civil unions, not religious.
I don’t expect you to change your opinion based on what I have written. Usually hatred, intolerance and prejudices are life-long. But try to see things, just for a minute from our perspective. Our day-to-day lives are not that different from yours or those in your parish.
Think of the great world leaders of spirituality and ask yourself how many of these people are admired because they preached love, tolerance, peace, and understanding. How of many of these leaders are admired because they brought people together. As a leader of a church, you have that power. Don’t waste it by spreading fear and discrimination.
In closing, I ask you how many how many hungry children could you have fed with the money you are spending to take away my rights. How many homeless might have been sheltered? How many people in need could you have helped just with the gas money you spent to send those people to Lynnwood? Perhaps it’s easier to hate than to help.

How to Kiss...

Now you know.

I Told You Girl Scouts Are Evil

"Borrowed from my bloggy buddy Ticklebear.

Check out his site!

Goodbye, Stephen Gately

Openly-gay pop star, Stephen Gately was found dead. He was in Mallorca with his husband, Andrew.

Stephen was in the Irish boyband, Boyzone. They created several songs I truly loved. The cause of death is still unknown so I shall be following the BBC to learn what I can.

If you're not familiar with Stephen or Boyzone, I bring you three incredible songs.

In this song, "Better", Stephen sings his part of this beautiful love song to another guy.

The very catchy "Love You Anyway"

This last song, "No Matter What" has much personal meaning, as it's one of our songs. Such incredible lyrics.

Rest in Peace, Stephen. Thank you for the music. You will be sadly missed.
