Guess Who's Getting Xanax in Her Stocking

Time for a nap.

For Those of Us Who Work Retail...

Working in retail can be a lot of fun...but at the holidays, it can be very dark and draining. I don't so much mind the hours...it's what happens to people that I hate. The holidays bring out the worst in some. So many have lost the reason behind the season. It's stunning to watch people fight over the last of an item...and sadder yet is hearing that someone took something from another person's cart.

We get chastised because we don't have enough of a particular item, as if we had a crystal ball to see what would sell well. Did you know most Christmas items are ordered almost a year in advance? We get yelled at because there are lines. I have even had a customer complain because we were playing Whitney Houston. One several occasions, I've been royally chewed out because we're not playing any Hanukkah music. My only reply is, "We probably would, but Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Neil Diamond, and Barry Manilow have only record Christmas albums."

So, it's really hard to get that Christmas spirit. The only thing that keeps me sane this time of year is coming home to a warm home, beautifully decorated, with all our happy "kids", and falling deeply into the eyes of the man I love. That's where I find Christmas.

Little John Doe

Few people under the age of 90 know Johnny Matthis did any other music besides Christmas carols. Working retail, his holiday music comes back every year like the swallows in Capistrano. His version of "What Child Is This" and "O Holy Night" are still guily favorites. Going on 75, this man can still sing.

Merry Christmas...Now Here's Your Cancer

Afterall, Christmas, Camels, Cancer, and Coffin all start with the letter "C".

Happy Life Day to You and Your Droids!

December 2009's 12 of 12

Saturday was the 12th of the month. That is when we celebrate Chad Darnell's 12 of 12, where bloggers all over the world celebrate and share their day with pictures. All pictures were taken on the 12th.

Our day began as they so often do...with Kali playing with Baby Egg.
This is an all-day event.

Stoli, on the other paw, would rather stay in bed and look cute. Notice what's in the upper-right corner?

We ran some errands. It was very cold but clear day here in Seattle. This photo was taken from I5 on the Ship Canal Bridge. The mountains were gorgeous.

Love this sign.

We went to Archie McPhee's, a fun little store.
I saw this hat...but did not get it.

Back at home, I checked on our koi pond. The water coming from Gamera, our turtle statue, had frozen a few days ago. Each day this upside down diagonal icicle grows. Amazing thing is that this natural ice sculpture is hollow and the water is still flowing inside.

Our tree. Ain't it purty?

We went to a party where they had vintage Christmas specials projected on the walls. This one was a reminder of just how un-PC the world was. I won't tell you what they were doing. You can guess and I will tell you if you are right.

There was a photo booth at the party. They made us get our pictures taken!!!

The balloons before the big drop on to the scandalous dance floor.

There was also a talent show going on. This was used by one of the participants. It was a pickle lamp. Yes, real pickles. Ew.

The crystal chandelier. No pickles here.

Have Some

We Need a Little Cigarette Now

I finally found Lucille Ball's croaking version of "We Need a Little Christmas." It's got a little snippit of a plea to put this disasterous movie out on DVD. I don't know why...I've seen better film on teeth.

If only Tallulah Bankhead recorded this...

This Dude Can Sing!!!

I came across this medley of Lady Gaga by vocalist Sam Tsui and guitarist Kurt Schneider tonight. If you haven't seen it...WATCH IT NOW! This guy can sing.

Here, they do a Michael Jackson medley.

A Beautiful Day in Seattle

The day started out with Kali posing in her antlers.

We had frost this morning

We went shopping for Christmas things. Molbak's had Dickens' Carolers.

Later, we went to Flower World. The geese were playing.

This goose was really having fun.

A picture from the parking garage at Macy's...

The same view a few hours later.

The clouds reflected in the windows of a skyscraper.

A zoomed photo of the sign at Pike Place Market.

A sad photo...a few days ago, 4 police officers were slain in nearby Tacoma. This flag flying at half-mast with a gorgeous background.

Guess Who's Having a Birthday...

Today is Daryl Hannah's birthday. I loved her as Kill Bill's Elle.

Does this song twist your nerve?

A Win for Our Side

This from Washington's Secretary of State's website
Referendum 71, placed on the ballot by foes of same-sex marriage, was approved by a margin of more than 110,000 votes, or more than 6 percentage points. National media describe it as the country’s first voter-approved domestic partnership or “everything-but-marriage” law.
The new law had been on hold pending the public vote, and will now go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, 30 days after the Nov. 3 General Election. The law is Senate Bill 5688 and applies to state-registered domestic partners, both same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples where at least one partner is 62 or older.

According to the canvass of returns certified by Secretary Reed and later proclaimed by Governor Gregoire, R-71 had 951,822 votes to approve the law and 838,842 to repeal.

I am so happy that Scootersville is in Washington!!!
